The different colours (apart from black) on these Zirconium rings are achieved by electro anodising. The ring is immersed in a bath of ammonium sulphide and an electric current passed through the ring. No actual colour is applied to the ring.
The current has the effect of thickening the oxide layer of the metal. As light passes through the layer it is split up into different colours of the spectrum. Different thicknesses of oxide layer produce varying colours. The beauty of this method is that no ring is ever the same due to the nature of the process.
